Hello everyone! Welcome to my blog!
My name is Tatiana and I’m from Ukraine. I have a husband, two daughters and tons of yarn, with which I’m constantly crocheting amigurumi. I’ve been creating my own amigurumi toys since 2013.
I will try to reveal in this Blog post some interesting points about my amigurumi designing way and its history.
Well, how it all started?
I have been crocheting since childhood, but never thought that toys can also be made with yarn and hook. It was a really amazing insight when in 2013 I saw an amigurumi toy in a crochet book. After a couple of days, I realized that I want to crochet a toy. Of course, I immediately bought a yarn, a hook of the wrong size and began to quickly monitor the Internet in search of amigurumi patterns.
Since I wanted to crochet something as soon as possible, without understanding the basics of amigurumi crocheting, the first toy (it was a cat) remained unfinished – holofiber was sticking out of it, and the details looked more like a colander (then I had no idea about the crochet density). Then I figured out the basics of the amigurumi, changed the hook and yarn, and since then nothing could stop me haha.
After some time, I realized that I want to create my own toys, besides, ideas kept popping up in my head. My first created toys were quite simple, I made them for my eldest daughter, and also gave them to our friends.
At the end of 2017, I started sharing my processes and projects on Instagram. First I started an account in Russian, and two years later I started a second account in English.
What was the first pattern I made?
It was a Toucan bird pattern. This was my very first experience in pattern design. It took me more than a month to figure out how to correctly take photos of the processes, what nuances must be shown, how to describe in detail and clearly all the steps of the crocheting process and assembling a toy. From that moment, I began to look at the process of creating toys and patterns in a completely different way.
A month later, I finished it, released the pattern, and it was unexpectedly liked by amigurumi lovers. Thanks to the Toucan pattern, I believed in myself and received a great boost of inspiration. That’s why this bright bird is on my logo and on my social avatars now.
Why “Planet Piu”?
When I already came up with a few of my own toys, I wanted them to have their own world and story. In addition, I was ready to create an Instagram account, but I needed a name that would unite all my toys and ideas. I started thinking about the variants of the names and suddenly it occurred to me – Planet Piu. I don’t know where it came from, but after three days I couldn’t even imagine any other name. I really love it!
How long does it take me to create one toy?
Oh, I never know in advance when the next toy will appear. Sometimes I can create a toy and design a pattern in 2-3 weeks. Sometimes it takes 2 months. Well, creativity is definitely unpredictable.
What’s next?
More new unusual toys and patterns (including free ones – I have some interesting ideas on this), new collaborations and useful lifehacks (really many plans and always not enough time to implement them all, hehe). And of course making of this website was a big step for me, I love it very much and really want this space to become convenient and interesting for you. And the best thing is that I can share much more information here than on social media (in fact, I really love my Instagram and Facebook, it’s just that each Internet space has its own advantages, right?). Want to share more ideas, tips and inspiration with you. So, stay tuned!
Thanks for stopping by! See you around!
